Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter was born on October 13, 1962 in Waldshut; she is a Roman Catholic, and married with two children.
Rita graduated from high school in Hochrhein-Gymnasium Waldshut in 1982; and from 1983 to 1989 studied economics in Freiburg im Breisgau and Zurich (Switzerland). She graduated with a degree in economics and business administration, and later graduated in business administration from the University of Zurich.
From 1992 to 1996 Rita worked as a marketing assistant; and from 1997 to 2005 worked in consulting and communication for Karin Rehbock-Zureich, MdB; and from March 2010 to November 2010 as a Management Consultant.
Rita is a member of ver.di, AWO, KLAR - No life with nuclear risks, hospice e. V., Against Oblivion For Democracy e.V. and EUROSOLAR - European Association for Renewable Energy e.V.
Since 1994, she has been a member of the SPD; and since 2001 chairman of the SPD-Kreisverband Waldshut. From 1999 to 2013 Rita served as a local councilor in Lauchringen; from 2009 to 2014 as a Member of the Regionalverband Hochrhein-Bodensee; since 2004 as a member of the Kreistages county Waldshut; and since 2007 as a member of the regional council of the SPD Baden-Württemberg.
She was Member of the Bundestag from 2005 to 2009 and again since October 2010.
Since December 2013, Rita has acted as the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.
